7th KOREAN FILM FESTIVAL – 30.10 > 09.11



From the 31st of October to 9th of November, the Korean Film Festival will take place in Brussels for its 7th edition and will offer a selection of 18 films covering a large variety of periods and styles. Organised by the Korean Cultural Centre in Brussels, this festival aims to highlight the Korean culture in all its diversity, by screening films of all styles and for all ages, various premieres, ands also special screenings. Unique and promoting a cinema from elsewhere, this year’s selection covers animation as well as drama, thriller, modern or classic. The films will be screened in three locations in Brussels: the Cinema Galeries, the Palais des beaux-arts de Bruxelles and the Cinémathèque Luxembourg.

The program of this edition will follow two main axes; Historical Classics and Modern Classics.

Historical Classics

The “Historical Classics” will present five “classic and monumental” films, that os to say a wide variety of cinematographic works. From the thriller Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance by Park Chan-wook, to the comedy with The Foul King, to the historical drama Seopyeonje, which features typical Korean themes, all will present the opportunity for discovering or rediscovering a cinema that celebrated its 100th anniversary this year and has already established itself among the most diversified and qualitative for a long time.

Seopyeonje – Im Kwom-taek

In addition, a selection of short films will also be presented. The Seopyeonje session will be accompanied by a Pansori, a traditional Korean art of singing storytelling, performed by a singer and a drummer.

Modern Classics

The “Modern Classics” will allow you to discover films released this year in South Korea and highly appreciated in festivals. This selection will show the diversity of contemporary creations: animation for children (Princess Aya) and adults (Motel Rose & Cocoon), documentaries (The Sea of Itami Jun, Family in the bubble, My Name is KIM Bok-dong), thrillers (The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil) and even drama (A Resistance)…

Two screenings will take place in presence of the directors: Motel Rose & Cocoon and My Name is KIM Bok-dong. These will be followed by Questions and Answers sessions.
