PÉTITION FOR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
OF IRANIAN FILM DIRECTOR MOHAMMAD RASOULOF

Mohammad Rasoulof, the acclaimed Iranian director who won the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes for « A man of integrity » is being denied the freedom to work and travel.
His passport was confiscated at Tehran airport on Sep 16th, following an international tour for the promotion of the film.
He has since been subject to a long interrogation by the Intelligence unit of the Revolutionary Guards.
If charges are retained against him, he could receive up to 6 years imprisonment.
Rasoulof is an artist. He works with light and darkness. He uses his palette of shadows to depict his perception of reality. Charging him with “acting against the security” of a State is absurd.
Though tyranny has long thrived on absurdities…
Silence encourages tyrants in their never-ending demand for submission.
We signatories of this petition – artists, writers, cinematographers, intellectuals, men and women – stand in solidarity with Mohammad Rasoulof. We demand that his freedom to work, travel and enjoy life with his family in Germany – be restituted to him immediately.
